The people of the Sylhet district are preparing themselves to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year 1422, on Tuesday next amid much enthusiasm as thousands of people are expected to join the “Nabobarsha” programmes across the district.
Different socio-cultural organisations and government institutions like district administration, City and Radio Pallikanto have drawn up elaborate programmes that include musical functions, colourful marches and street-side Baishakhi fairs in the district town.
However, business communities especially in the rural areas are ready with their traditional ‘Halkhata’ (ledger book) to welcome the Bengali New year.
District administration, police administration and Shilpakala Accademy will organise the programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh on the local Shaheed Minar premises at Court Road in the district.
Calling upon all to join the programmes, Md Shohidul Islam deputy commissioner of the district, wished a healthy, wealthy and peaceful life of the people of the district in the days to come.
Members of different law-enforcing agencies police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and detective police will take adequate security measures at almost all gathering places in the district town and elsewhere in the district for smooth celebration of Pahela Baishakh.
“Tight security measures will be taken in and around all key gathering points in the district town and other places of the district to celebrate the New Year in a peaceful manner”, Nure alam mina superintendent of police of Sylhet said.
