Baki’s 2016 Rio Olympics dream still alive

30Bangladesh shooter Abdullah Hel Baki kept alive his hopes of qualifying for the Rio Olympics next year as he finished 26th in the men’s 10-metre air-rifle event (qualification) of the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Changwon, South Korea yesterday.
Baki, winner of the silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scored a total of 621.9 points to finish among the top 26 shooters in the world event, and sixth best among the Asian shooters. Baki’s score dwarfed that of well-known shooters like Indians Gagan Narang (44th), Abhinav Singh Bindra (46th) and Sanjeev Rajput (50th).
Baki, who traveled to South Korea a month ago for his conditioning camp, will take part in two more events today – 50m rifle 3-position and 50m rifle prone-men.
