Bangladesh shooter Abdullah Hel Baki kept alive his hopes of qualifying for the Rio Olympics next year as he finished 26th in the men’s 10-metre air-rifle event (qualification) of the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Changwon, South Korea yesterday.
Baki, winner of the silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, scored a total of 621.9 points to finish among the top 26 shooters in the world event, and sixth best among the Asian shooters. Baki’s score dwarfed that of well-known shooters like Indians Gagan Narang (44th), Abhinav Singh Bindra (46th) and Sanjeev Rajput (50th).
Baki, who traveled to South Korea a month ago for his conditioning camp, will take part in two more events today – 50m rifle 3-position and 50m rifle prone-men.
