Farashganj hold Abahani

Abahani in their bid to regain the title saw another setback when they were forced to share points with lowly Farashganj Sporting Club  in the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League yesterday.
After the draw, Abahani managed to earn 14 points from eight outings with only four victories and two draws and suffered two defeats. Abahani in fact had their tough time in the very first match of league when they began the journey with a 2-2 draw with the other newcomers Rahmatganj and saw huge blow in the fifth match after going down to Sk Russel by 0-2 and 0-1 to Muktijoddha.
Despite the first half could not draw any temptation as either the favourites or the underdogs could produce any remarkable move to score but Abahani had a half chance in the added time before the break.
It could have been a goal in the injury period if Morrison could connect his volley inside the area on a ball came to his way from combined attack. In fact it was the all important move in the first half fabricated by Abahani.
But the four times title holders of the Professional League tried to make a strong come back in the second half with improved display as, the post lemon session got some pace with Abahani were in command to control the match and Farashganj also went for some strong counter attacks.
Abahani, who played with full yellow jersey, came closer to take the lead on 63rd minute which was the first real chance they could produce but Morison failed to slam home a Shakil left side cross from the edge of the area.
Morrison, who actually displayed some missing trial, spoiled one of the easiest chances of the day when he made a blunder to beat rival team keeper Sujan Chowdhury from a close distance. Morrison received a pass from Emon Mahmud, but the captain of the Old Dhaka outfit was very sharp as he snatched the ball giving no chance the Nigerian to take the final shot.
In fact Farashganj defenders Shaikat and Mamun kept Morrison under close marking and did not give him enough space as the Nigerian could not shine in whole 90 minutes time to beat his markers.
The last chance for Abahani to obtain full points was shattered on 65th minute when a Towhidul Alam cross struck against the cross piece.
But the scenario could have been different had Towhid of Farashganj forward could beat Abahani keeper Ziaur Rahman in one and one situation.
