.Menon: Direct Biman flight on London-Sylhet route to resume soon

Rashed Khan Menon, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, promised Bangladesh Biman’s direct flight on Sylhet-London-Sylhet route “will be resumed soon”. He said big aircrafts cannot fly to and from Sylhet airport due to lack of runway preparedness even after setting up refuelling centre. Mr Menon said that initiatives are being taken to fulfil the dream of expatriates so that big aircrafts, like 777 Boeings, can operate in Sylhet airport.

Rashed Khan Menon was addressing as the chief guest at an award-giving event organised by Biman in London on 3 November. Congratulating the award winning cargo sales agents and top saling agents, Mr Menon said that Biman is narrowing down its loss day by day. He expressed his satisfaction at the positive responses from the expatriates about the services of Biman.

The event was organised at Regent Lake Banquating Hall, where Chairman of Biman Mr Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism ministry Mr Khurshed Alam Chowdhury and High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the UK Mr Abdul Hannan and Country manager of Biman Mohammed Shafiqul Islam were present.

Biman awarded 19 UK-based business organisations as top selling agents. Top Passenger Sales Agent award went to Hill Side Travels of Helal Khan and the only award as a cargo sales agent went to JMG Cargo of Monir Ahmed. The second, third, fourth and fifth award for passenger sales agency went to Imran Travels, Air Express, Travel Link and Surma Travels respectively.

The award and certificate giving event was attended by dignitaries; Speaker of Tower Hamlets Council Abdul Mukit Chunu MBE, convener of UK Bangla Press Club Reza Ahmod Fosol Chowdhury Shoeb, president of London Bangla Press Club Nobab Uddin, chief editor of Weekly Janomot Syed Nahas Pasha, poet Shamim Azad, Zakir Khan of Canary Wharf group, CEO of Channel S Taz Chowdhury, CEO of NTV Europe Sabrina Hussain and CEO of Betar Bangla Nazim Chowdhury were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
