Tamim verbally abused?

38The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) witnessed an unprecedented incident on Monday, a shameful one though. Chittagong Vikings skipper and Bangladesh national team opener Tamim Iqbal alleges that he has been verbally abused. Although the left-handed hard-hitting batsman did not name the person, but it is clear that it was the owner of Sylhet Super Stars, Azizul Islam.

It all started when Chittagong protested the inclusion of two foreign players at the last moment, whose names were not there on the initial team sheet.

Tamim told his team to wait in the dressing room till the issue is sorted out, something that irked the Sylhet tent and a heated argument was ensued.

“You should respect a national team player. You may have money but that does not mean you will treat a national player like a beggar,” Tamim said on the incident.

“We have come here to play, not to have our parents cursed. I humbly tried to make my point, addressing him as ‘sir’. I was sitting there. He told me to stand up and I obliged. Then he started saying abusive words about my family. It’s a shame,” he added.

All that he wants now is to see the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) take an exemplary step.

“We have talked about it after the match. A Major of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was there. We are waiting to have his report. Then we will take an action,” said Jalal Yunus, chief of BCB Technical Committee.

However, the son of the Sylhet team owner, refuted the allegations. “These are big lies. My father did not say anything like that. He told Tamim that being a player he has nothing to do with the issue and he should do his job. That is when Tamim started cursing him. We do have video footage,” said Azimul Islam.

He added that they have verbally complained to the BCB to this end.
