Saree Soiree Charity Event to celebrate Mother’s Day & International Women’s Day

39A wonderful evening was had by all who attended the Saree Soiree event on Sunday 6th March organised by Dr Momotaj Islam and Miss Tia Khanam, at the Osmani Centre. The ladies got into the spirit of it by coming in colourful sarees and there were just as many gentlemen to support them. During an evening of informative and moving presentations, excellent entertainment (poetry, song, dance), delicious food, and an exciting scarf & saree auction, considerable funds were raised for two charitable causes, Friendship Bangladesh & Making Herstory. Dr Islam stated, “We chose these two causes to support in our first charity event because we are passionate about both. They are founded by inspirational women (Runa Khan & Leesa Gazi, respectively) and they predominately support women & their families in Bangladesh.  What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day & International Women’s Day!”

Miss Khanam & Dr Islam, who worked on this project independently, based on their personal commitments to the charitable causes both wanted to thank the sponsors, supporters, presenters, performers, and of course, the attendees. Mohibuness Talukder said, “It was very informative & well organised. An absolutely fantastic event!” Reshma Zaman stated, Well done Tia & Momotaj for a fabulous evening, addressing some very important issues and reminding us all of how fortunate we are!!”
