11 gamblers held in Habiganj

Habiganj Correspondent : Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested 11 gamblers in separate drives in Sadar and Chunarughat upazilas of the district last night (Thursday).

The arrested were identified as Fazlu Mia, 55, son of Abdul Mannan, resident of Swarnarekh village of Chunarughat upazila, Parash Ali, 35, son of Akbar Ali, resident of Narpati village, Jamal Mia,40, son of Abul Kalam, resident of Mirashi village, Liakat Ali, 36, son of Sundar Ali, resident of Pachgatia village, Noor Islam, 25, son of Feroz Ali, resident of Kalapur village, all residents are Chunarughat upazila, Shanu Mia, 30, son of late Anjab Ali, Shaheen Mia, son of Noor Mia, Jilu Mial,38, son of late Atab Ali, Mamun Mia,25, son of A: Quader, Shahed Mia, 55, son of late Muktar Mia and Abdul Latif alias Sujan Mia,35 son of late Maram Ali, resident of North Raidhar village. All are resident s of Sadar upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a raid in the Pachgatia area of Ranigao union of the Chunarughat upazilas around 10pm last night and held five gamblers with gambling equipment while they were gambling, DB police sources said.

Meanwhile, a team of DB police conducted a raid around 10:30 pm last night and arrested six gamblers along with Taka 5,400 and and gambling equipment while playing gambling at a tin-shade house behind the tea stall of Raidhar Bazar in Barauri village of Gopaya union in Sadar upazila.

Two separate cases were filed in this connection, sub-inspector (SI) of DB police Abhijit Bhowmik said.
