Four of the six Bangladeshis who were killed in a fatal road accident in South Africa were buried at their family graveyards in Feni district on Friday.
Ismail Hossain, Raju Ahmed, Mostofa Kamal and Abul Hossain were buried at their respective village homes after their namaz-e-janaza.
Char Majlishpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman MA Hossain said that when Abul Hossain’s body was brought to his village home on Thursday night, the relatives burst into tears. Later, he was buried in the family graveyard around 10:00am on Friday.
However, Abul Hossain’s 10-year old son Nadim Hossain was buried in South Africa as he was a South African citizen.
Nizam Uddin, brother of the victim Ismail Hossain Raju, said that the four bodies were brought at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on board an Emirates Airlines flight at 5:40pm on Thursday.
Later, victims’ bodies were handed over to their families after due procedures, Nizam added.
The bodies of these four expatriate Bangladeshis arrived in the country seven days after the accident.
The accident happened at around 9:00am on February 24 last when the victims were going to Cape Town from Johannesburg by a car.
On the way, a lorry hit the car carrying them, leaving five of them dead on the spot.
Two more Bangladeshis–Anisul Huq Milon, 38, and Nadim Hossain, 10 were seriously injured in the accident. They were admitted to a local George Hospital where they succumbed later on.
Anisul Huque Milon, hailed from Daganbhuyian upazila in Feni district, succumbed to his injuries on Monday while underwent treatment at George Hospital in South Africa. The process is underway to bring his body back to the country.
