A five-day long 54th director general level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Forces (BSF) of India began on Tuesday (March 5, 2024) at the BGB Headquarters at Pilkhana in Dhaka on Tuesday.
A 16-member Bangladesh delegation led by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and a nine-member Indian delegation led by Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Nitin Agrawal have joined the conference.
Apart from senior BGB officials, the Bangladesh delegation included officials concerned from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Joint River Commission (JRC).
On the other hand, the nine-member Indian delegation included senior officials from the BSF, Indian Ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, and officials from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
The meeting discussed border killings, illegal trespassing, checking the smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition and other goods; containing crimes at border, taking various development activities within 150 yards of international borders, preserving the banks of rivers along the borders and adopting a coordinated border management plan (CBMP) etc.
On the occasion of border conference, BSF DG’s wife and BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) Chairperson Smita Agrawal and representatives of their organisation are now visiting Bangladesh. She shared opinion with the wife of BGB DG and Shimanta Paribar Kalyan Samity (SHIPKS)’s Chief Patron Nowrin Ashraf. Smita Agrawal is also taking part in different programmes organised by Border Officers Ladies Club and Children’s Club.
It may be mentioned that the the border conference will conclude through the signing of Joint Records of Discussions (JRD) at 9:00am on March 9, 2024, and the Indian delegation will leave Dhaka on the same day.
