Nobel Laureate economist Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus on Sunday appeared before a Dhaka court and sought acquittal from a case charge filed against him over misappropriation of about Tk 25.22 crore of Grameen Telecom Workers’ profit participation fund.
Today is scheduled for hearing on charge framing of the case. The hearing will be held before the court of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-4 Judge Syed Arafat Hossain.
Earlier this morning, Dr Yunus appeared in the court and, later, his lawyer Abdullah-Al-Mamun submitted a petition seeking acquittal of Dr Yunus and 13 other from the case charge.
Before the defense lawyer, ACC Public Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kazol placed his arguments in favour of framing charges against the accused.
The 13 other accused are Grameen Telecom Managing Director (MD) Nazmul Islam, Directors Ashraful Hasan, Naznin Sultana, Parvin Mahmud, Md Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum and Professor SM Huzzatul Islam Latifee, President of ‘Grameen Telecom Sramik-Karmachari Union Md Kamruzzaman and its General Secretary Firoz Mahmud Hasan, lawyers Zafrul Hasan Sharif and Yusuf Ali, Union’s representative Md Mainul Islam and Jatiya Workers Federation’s Office Secretary Kamrul Hasan.
On February 1, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) submitted the chargesheet against the 14 persons accusing them of misappropriation of Tk 25.22 crore of Grameen Telecom Workers’ Profit Participation Fund.
Deputy Director of ACC, Gulshan Anwar, filed the case on May 30 last year as the complainant.
