A vested quarter wants to keep interim govt in power indefinitely: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that a vested quarter has already stared working to keep Professor Muhammad Yunus led interim government in power indefinitely.

Demanding the announcement of holding election as soon as possible, he power must have to be handed over to the elected government after holding an election. Then the elected government will decide where reforms or changes have to be carried out. The next parliament will decide whether the constitution would require to be written anew or it would need to be amended.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking at a discussion organized by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) in the capital on Monday (September 16).

The BNP leader alleged that the fascist Hasina government has destroyed the country both socially and economically clinging to power over the last 15 years. They have destroyed all democratic institutions.

Referring to the Election Commission (EC) reform, he laid strong emphasis on holding the general election as quickly as possible after minimum reforms to the electoral body.

Fakhrul observed that a vested quarter has already started working to foil the possibility of creating a new Bangladesh which was achieved through the bloodshed of students and people.

“Important people of the society have already started making confusing remarks. This government which has given responsibility to some people who are saying floating of a new political party. We have become surprised to know that who has given them the responsibility of floating a new party? Now, tell me how people will know that they are working impartially?”
