Travel ban imposed on ex-lawmaker Shafiuddin Shamim

A Dhaka court on Monday has imposed the ban on former lawmaker for Comilla-8 constituency Abu Zafar Mohammad Shafiuddin Shamim from leaving the country.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition, submitted by ACC Assistant Director Ferdous Rahman, highlighted allegations of embezzling 300 crore taka from a single project, along with similar accusations regarding other projects. An investigation team has been formed to probe the matter, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to the petition, during the investigation, it was discovered through confidential sources that Shafiuddin Shamim was attempting to flee the country. If he were to escape abroad, it could severely disrupt or delay the investigation process.

To ensure a fair and uninterrupted inquiry, the court has deemed it necessary to impose a travel ban on Shamim.
