Water cannons, sound grenades used on 17th batch NTRCA jobseekers

Police used batons, water cannon and sound grenades to disperse job aspirants registered under the 17th batch of the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) as they blocked the Secretariat road on Sunday.

The clash broke out around 11AM in front of the Jatiya Press Club when the demonstrators gathered there and started protest blocking the road.

For this, vehicle movement in the surrounding areas came to a halt.

To normalise the vehicular movement on that road and to disperse the protesters, police took this initiative which left several injured.

The protesters alleged that NTRCA deliberately made 40 per cent of students fail in the registration exam.

The demonstrators had passed the 2020 NTRCA teacher registration exam, but the results were delayed until December 2023. Now, they are demanding a special circular-aligned with an Appellate Division directive-that would allow them to apply under the sixth mass recruitment notice.
