Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef S Y Ramadan met BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Tuesday night at her Gulshan residence, Firoza.
The envoy arrived around 8:30 PM, and the meeting lasted for about 45 minutes.
BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Dr Enamul Haque Chowdhury and her Private Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar were also present.
After the meeting, Dr Enamul Haque Chowdhury told that the Ambassador enquired about Khaleda’s health, prayed for her recovery, and briefed her on the latest developments in Palestine.
Khaleda Zia expressed deep concern over Israel’s actions in Gaza, urging the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the international community to immediately intervene to stop what she described as Israel’s “destructive plan” to occupy Gaza and forcibly displace Palestinians.
She also conveyed her sympathy for the thousands of women and children enduring immense suffering in the besieged territory.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ramadan fondly recalled late President Ziaur Rahman’s decision to provide land for the Palestinian Embassy in Gulshan, as well as Khaleda Zia’s 1991 initiative to extend financial support for the construction of the embassy building.
He also reflected on the historic friendship between President Ziaur Rahman and Palestine’s iconic leader Yasser Arafat.
