MPO-listed teachers announce fresh program

Teachers affiliated with the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme have announced a renewed phase of protest, including a “March to the Secretariat,” demanding increased house rent and medical allowances.

The demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday at noon, following an indefinite nationwide strike launched on Monday (October 13). The movement will continue until the government issues an official notification addressing their demands, organizers said.

The announcement was made during a press briefing held at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Monday afternoon by Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi, Secretary of the MPO Education Nationalization Alliance.

“If no official notification or public statement is issued by the government by tonight, the long march and ongoing strike will proceed as planned,” warned Azizi. “We are committed to continuing our movement until our legitimate demands are met.”

The teachers are calling for a substantial increase in housing and medical allowances—key benefits they say have remained stagnant despite rising living costs.

In solidarity with the cause, MPO-listed teachers across the country have joined an indefinite strike, disrupting academic activities at numerous private and non-government educational institutions covered under the MPO scheme.

A sit-in protest continues at Central Shaheed Minar, where demonstrators also condemned recent incidents of violence and alleged attacks on protesting teachers in various districts.

The Alliance has emphasized that the agitation will remain ongoing until the authorities formally acknowledge and act upon their demands.
