Investing in science-oriented youth key to sustainable growth: CR Abrar

Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has stressed that building a science-minded generation is vital for ensuring sustainable national progress.

He made the remarks while addressing Bangladesh Science Academy–Professor Emeritus Dr. Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury Talent Nurture Fund Scholarship Award Ceremony as the chief guest at National Science and Technology Complex at Agargaon in Dhaka on Saturday.

“This event is not merely a prize-giving ceremony; it is a proud celebration of Bangladesh’s steady advancement in scientific research and innovation,” said Professor Abrar, widely known as CR Abrar.

He added, “The torch of Bangladesh’s scientific future will shine in the hands of our young generation.”

Paying tribute to Professor Emeritus Dr. Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury, Abrar described him as a “brilliant figure in medical science and education,” noting that his humanitarian ideals continue to inspire young scientists across the country.

Highlighting the growing global emphasis on knowledge and technology, the adviser said Bangladesh has made notable progress in applying science-based policies across various sectors including agriculture, health, information technology, renewable energy and climate adaptation.

He said the government is implementing a science and innovation-driven development strategy, stressing the need to nurture young researchers’ interest in scientific inquiry and creativity to sustain this momentum.

“This scholarship is not just an award; it is an investment in a generation that will shape the future of Bangladesh,” Abrar told the scholarship recipients. “You represent not only personal success but also the promise of our nation’s scientific future.”

He underscored the importance of fostering an ecosystem for talent development that connects schools, universities, research institutions and industry, saying, “Science is not confined to laboratories; it is a force for social transformation and human welfare.”

At the event, 200 selected students received certificates and awards under the Talent Nurture Fund Scholarship, with the education adviser congratulating them and wishing success in their research journeys.

Dr. Zahurul Karim, President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, chaired the ceremony, while Zakia Rouf Chowdhury, Chairperson of Professor Emeritus Dr. Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury Foundation, attended as the special guest.
