Violence over nomination dispute, BNP expels 4 leaders

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled four of its leaders on charges of violence, road blockades and activities deemed against public interest centering nomination dispute over Chittagong-4 constituency.

The expulsion order was issued early Tuesday through a press release signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The expelled leaders are Alauddin Moni, president of the BNP’s volunteer wing Swechchhasebak Dal in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong; Helal Uddin Babor, general secretary of the same unit; Mamun, convener of the Sitakunda municipality unit; and Momin Uddin Mintu, general secretary of the Jubo Dal in Sonaichhari.

The four leaders were involved in violence, clashes and road blockades on the Dhaka–Chittagong highway’s Kadamrrasul, Bhatiari Bazar and Jalil Gate areas in Sitakunda on Monday evening, it said.
