People saw a ‘demo’ of 17-year autocracy in past 16 months: Asif Mahmud

National Citizen Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain on Monday said the countrymen saw a new face of Awami League’s 17-year largely fascist rule over the past 16 months.

In the 17 years till the 2024 July Uprising, people faced state-backed repression, enforced disappearances, murder, custodial torture and more. A demonstration of those atrocities was staged in the 16 months following the uprising, he claimed without specifying the new perpetrators, Asif Mahmud said while speaking at a party campaign event at Fultal area, Boalkhali upazila, Chattogram.

People saw how extortions and terrorism spread from every nook and corner of rural areas to towns and to the highest level of state bodies, he added.

If voters wish to resist these criminals, they must ensure a ballot revolution on 12 February. This time, people need not take to the streets as they did during the uprising, rather only the proper vote casting is needed to sustainably break the unity among the fascist forces, Asif Mahmud said.

The 11-party alliance, where NCP is a member, can ensure this freedom from fascist cycle, he said, urging voters to vote for Md Jobairul Hasan Arif, NCP’s candidate at Chattogram-8.
