No more kings’ or ministers’ sons inheriting power: Jamaat Ameer

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman reiterated the party’s commitment to merit-based leadership, rejecting dynastic politics and building a discrimination-free Bangladesh in line with the aspirations of the people.

Dr Shafiqur said, “We want to abolish the zamindari system and the culture of the king’s son becoming king or the minister’s son becoming minister.”

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally organised by Feni District Jamaat-e-Islami at Feni Government Pilot High School ground on Friday.

He emphasised that the 11-party alliance would work to create a Bangladesh where even the son of a rickshaw puller could become prime minister if he has the ability.

“Corrupt politics in the past have given rise to fascism and entrenched corruption. We want to show politics a red card and build a new Bangladesh,” he said.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also highlighted the party’s stance on employment and social dignity. “Jamaat does not support unemployment allowances but believes in ensuring dignity through employment. Women must be respected both at home and in the workplace. If Jamaat comes to power, the honour and dignity of scholars and Qawmi madrasas will be enhanced,” he added.

He alleged that the Awami League’s 16-year rule had led to misgovernance, citing incidents such as the Pilkhana massacre, the killing of Jamaat-BNP leaders and activists, and the murders of scholars and ulema. He said the July 24 revolution had freed the people from this misrule.

Recalling last year’s devastating floods in Feni, Dr Shafiqur Rahman urged the public to remember Abrar Fahad, who was killed for raising issues related to the Feni River.

Promising local development, he said that if Jamaat comes to power, government medical colleges would be established in 31 districts, including Feni; specialised hospitals would be set up; dams would be constructed along the Feni River; and a modern stadium would be built in the district.

Calling for unity, he urged candidates nominated by the 11-party alliance in Feni’s three constituencies to work together to ensure victory and build a new Bangladesh. He also encouraged voters to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum.

The rally also featured speeches by Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, Central Majlis-e-Shura member Professor Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan, AB Party Chairman and 11-party alliance candidate for Feni-2 constituency Mujibur Rahman Manju, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) President Rashed Prodhan.

At the end of the programme, the Jamaat Ameer met with July 24 revolution fighters and families of martyrs and handed over party symbols to the candidates contesting the three Feni seats.
