
A high-level Japanese election observer delegation, led by Japan’s ambassador and mission chief Masato Watanabe, held a courtesy meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at the Bashundhara office on Thursday morning.
The meeting took place at 9am in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
During the discussions, both sides emphasised the mission’s goal of monitoring whether Bangladesh’s general elections are conducted fairly, transparently, and acceptably, while supporting the strengthening of democratic processes.
The Japanese observers expressed hope that their initiative would contribute positively to ensuring a credible election environment in Bangladesh and further consolidate the country’s democratic system. Both parties also expressed optimism that the cooperation would strengthen bilateral relations and foster future development and progress between the two nations.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman was joined by Mosharraf Hossain Masud, a member of Jamaat’s National Election Management Committee, and Prof Mahmudul Hasan, Ameer’s foreign affairs advisor.
