Fuel handling operations at Chattogram Port remain steady as two additional fuel-laden vessels have arrived, reinforcing the country’s ongoing energy supply chain.
According to port officials, the vessels, ‘Chang Hang Hong Tu’ and ‘LPG Seven’, are currently discharging cargo and are expected to complete unloading within the week, reports BSS.
The ‘Chang Hang Hong Tu’, carrying gas oil from Malaysia, arrived on March 15 and is now berthed at Bravo Mooring. The vessel has already offloaded around 5,000 metric tonnes of fuel, with full discharge expected by March 19.
Meanwhile, ‘LPG Seven’, which reached the port on March 8 with a consignment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Oman, is anchored near the Kutubdia area. It has so far unloaded approximately 7,020 metric tonnes of LPG and is likely to complete operations by March 20, before departing later in the week.
Officials said 28 fuel-carrying vessels have recently called at the port, most of which have already completed unloading and left. These shipments included a range of fuels such as LNG, LPG, crude oil, gas oil, high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), and base oil, sourced from countries including Qatar, the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Oman and India.
Several more vessels are currently en route from Qatar, Australia, Singapore, Angola, Thailand, and Oman, carrying additional consignments of LNG, LPG, HSFO and base oil.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Refayat Hamim said necessary steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted unloading and distribution, adding that the steady arrival of vessels would help maintain stability in the national fuel supply chain.
