
Bangladesh participated in the 36th Extraordinary Session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East and its impact on global maritime safety and security.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Deputy High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam.
During the session, he expressed Bangladesh’s deep concern over the safety, security and welfare of seafarers, including Bangladeshi nationals working aboard vessels operating in the affected regions.
Bangladesh also reiterated its support for uninterrupted and lawful navigation in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The delegation urged all concerned parties to engage in meaningful dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ensure a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
The session focused on assessing risks to maritime operations amid rising tensions in the Middle East and exploring measures to safeguard international shipping routes.
