Govt aims to build trillion-dollar economy by 2034

The BNP-led government has set a key target of getting the country to a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, said Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at a parliamentary session on Monday.

To this end, the government is preparing short-, medium-, and long term plans, he said in reply to a question placed by Dhaka-18 lawmaker SM Jahangir Hossain.

Citing the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), he said the per capita income was $2,769 in the 2024-25 fiscal year, which ended on 30 June 2025.

The government is working to increase the per capita income through a number of initiatives that would reduce unemployment, boost production and investment, improve remittance inflow, increase exports and also protect people’s purchasing power and real wages.
