Thirteen western countries on Wednesday jointly issued guidelines for Bangladeshi citizens urging them to follow official procedures and avoid non-authorised channels when seeking visa and other consular services.
Use of fraud documents, unlicensed agents and offices could lead to delays in visa processing, financial loss, refusal at border entry points and serious legal consequences, the countries warned in the guidelines.
The set of guidelines was jointly issued by the UK, Canada, Australia, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Sweden and Switzerland.
The Dhaka-based embassies and high commissions of some of these countries posted the guidelines on their official facebook pages on Wednesday.
In the guidelines, the countries urged Bangladeshi service seekers to avoid taking assistance from any intermediaries who would claim special access to or influence over consular services. None of the listed embassies and high commissions is affiliated with any such agent, it added.
It further urged Bangladeshis to always rely on verified information and official channels provided by legitimate authorities.
