BNP candidate wins Bogura-6 by-polls

BNP candidate Rezaul Karim Badsha has been declared winner in the by-election to the Bogura-6 constituency.

Returning Officer Fazlur Karim declared him winner on Thursday night. Voting took place in a peaceful atmosphere without any untoward incident taking place, he added.

Earlier around 4pm, Jamaat-e-Islami backed-candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel alleged that ruling party activists took part in widespread rigging activities during the vote casting process.

The published results showed BNP’s Rezaul Karim Badsha clinching total 1,33,215 votes in 150 polling centres. His nearest rival, Abidur Rahman Sohel, got 56,904 votes.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman won the parliamentary seat in the 12 February general elections. However, later he vacated the seat and opted to retain Dhaka-17 constituency, where he had beaten the Jamaat candidate by a close margin.
