Petition filed against Dr Yunus over alleged irregularities in vaccine procurement

A petition has been filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking an investigation into possible irregularities and corruption in the procurement of vaccines for measles and other diseases.

Supreme Court lawyers Biplob Kumar Das and Barrister Sanaullah Noor-e-Sagar submitted the application to the ACC Chairman on Monday.

In their petition, the lawyers expressed deep concern over recent reports of child deaths linked to measles outbreaks across the country. They stated that the deaths of around hundred children has caused significant concern among citizens and professionals alike.

The petition highlights allegations that shortages of essential vaccines and syringes, alongwith a rise in measles infections, may be linked to mismanagement in the health sector. It calls for investigation into whether former interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and former Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum, alongwith other concerned authorities, bear any responsibility.

Meanwhile, the current government has attributed the shortage of measles vaccines and syringes to issues inherited from the previous administration.

The ACC is expected to review the petition and take necessary steps following an investigation.
