Bangladesh Bar Council election postponed

The Bangladesh Bar Council member election 2026 has been postponed, meaning the scheduled voting on May 19 will no longer take place.

The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting held on Wednesday night at the Bar Council building, according to an official press release.

The statement said the postponement was made in view of the ongoing severe energy crisis in the country, which could significantly disrupt nationwide election campaigning.

It also cited written requests and appeals from several bar associations, including the Supreme Court Bar Association, Dhaka Bar Association and Chittagong District Bar Association, as additional reasons for the decision.

The election date of May 19 had earlier been fixed in a meeting held on April 2.
