Bangladesh, Morocco to broaden cooperation in trade, investment

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam met Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita in Rabat on Tuesday and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of sustained high-level exchanges in advancing political ties between Bangladesh and Morocco.

During the meeting, the state minister recalled former president Ziaur Rahman’s 1980 visit to Morocco and appreciated Morocco for naming an avenue in Rabat after him.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Bangladesh-Morocco relations in trade and investment, textiles, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, sports, culture, agriculture, education, women’s empowerment, shipbuilding and people-to-people connectivity.

They also stressed the importance of stronger collaboration in multilateral platforms.

Shama Obaed Islam and Nasser Bourita agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Consultations in Dhaka at the earliest opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and explore new areas of mutual interest.
