NCP leaders on Friday alleged that activists of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal attacked the party’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary in Jhenidah after the Jummah prayers.
The alleged incident took place next to the District Collector Jam-e-Mosque located opposite to the district administrator’s residence in the town.
As soon as Patwary and his NCP colleagues left the mosque, a group of Chhatra Dal activists launched a protest outside. From inside the group, some people threw eggs and attacked the NCP team, leading to a clash.
The NCP members later went to the police station to file a lawsuit over the incident, and alleged that Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders were taking preparations outside to launch a second attack.
Police presence were significantly increased following the incident.
In a Facebook post, Patwary claimed that the activists allied with the ruling BNP threw punches at him soon after he exited the mosque in the presence of police personnel.
Initially, the unruly youth attacked with eggs and brick chips. Then, they brought out hockey sticks, inflicting severe injury marks on the heads of three NCP activists, and leaving many others injured, Patwary alleged.
The BNP-linked youth also forcibly snatched moneybags, cameras and mobile phones from NCP members, he claimed.
Sarjis Alam, NCP chief organiser for north, said many NCP activists had to be hospitalised after the attack.
