The National Citizen Party (NCP) has again suspended Joint Member Secretary Gazi Sahlahuddin Tanvir for allegedly violating party discipline by publishing a controversial social media post about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

According to an NCP letter, Gazi’s Facebook post on Friday, which made controversial remarks about the prime minister over attacks on the NCP’s marches in three Sylhet Division districts, seriously breached the party’s organisational discipline and tarnished its image.

In the post, which he later deleted and apologised for, Gazi also accused several leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal of involvement in the attacks.

The letter said he was immediately relieved of his duties on the instructions of Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossen.

Gazi has been asked to submit a written explanation with supporting evidence within two days, failing which he may face further organisational action.

This is the second time the NCP has taken disciplinary action against Gazi.

Earlier in April 2025, NCP relieved him of his party responsibilities over allegations that he tried to influence deputy commissioner appointments at the secretariat and was involved in irregularities in NCTB textbook printing. He, however, was reinstated on 16 April this year.
