Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the Bangladesh government has appointed a law firm in Dubai to cancel the conditional bail of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and bring him back to the country.
He added that it would be possible to bring him back swiftly through legal procedures.
The Home Minister made these remarks while responding to journalists at Rajshahi Police Lines on Sunday, August 2 afternoon.
“We have heard that former police chief Benazir Ahmed obtained conditional bail from a court in Dubai. We have already discussed the matter with the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Dubai. Currently, we are attempting to collect a certified copy of his bail order,” the minister said.
Regarding steps to extradite the fugitive former police official, he said a law firm has been engaged in Dubai on behalf of the Bangladesh government to cancel his bail order.
The firm has already initiated work on the matter, he added.
“We hope to bring him back to the country very quickly through legal processes,” the minister expressed optimism.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed attended an exchange-of-views meeting with officers and members of Rajshahi Range Police and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) at Rajshahi Police Lines.
He disclosed the information during a media briefing following the meeting.
