A new commission of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been formed with retired Appellate Division judge AKM Asaduzzaman as its chairman.

The other two members of the commission are former secretary Jahangir Alam Khan and former National Board of Revenue (NBR) tax commissioner Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on Monday night.

According to sources, the selection committee proposed two names for each of the three posts, making a total of six candidates, to the President. The President subsequently appointed one candidate as chairman and two as commissioners.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, a retired judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, retired in February 2026. Before his elevation to the Appellate Division, he served as a judge of the High Court Division.

Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, who has been appointed commissioner, is a former tax commissioner of the NBR. During the interim government, he served as chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), an organisation affiliated with the Ministry of Finance.

Jahangir Alam Khan is a former secretary.

The government initiated the process of forming a new commission after the ACC’s chairman and two commissioners resigned on 3 March this year.

Subsequently, a search committee was formed with the Cabinet Secretary as its member secretary to recommend candidates for the vacant posts.

Under the ACC Act, the President appoints the chairman and two commissioners based on recommendations from the search committee.

With the appointment of the three new commissioners, the ACC has regained a full commission after remaining without complete leadership for around five and a half months.

Sources said the search committee held six meetings to scrutinise the CVs and assess the qualifications of potential candidates. Following the review, it finalised the names of AKM Asaduzzaman, Jahangir Alam Khan and Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan for the posts of chairman and commissioners.

The new commission is expected to resume the ACC’s full-fledged activities following the notification of their appointments.
