Germany congratulates Mirza Fakhrul on election as Bangladesh president

Germany has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the President of Bangladesh.

In a statement posted by the German Embassy in Dhaka on Friday (21 August), Germany wished the president-elect every success in his new office.

“Congratulations to President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as President of Bangladesh. We wish him every success in his new office and look forward to further strengthening the close partnership between Germany and Bangladesh,” the statement said.

The statement comes after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected as Bangladesh’s 23rd president in a parliamentary vote on Thursday.

Germany and Bangladesh maintain longstanding bilateral relations, with cooperation spanning trade, development, climate change and other areas of mutual interest.
