Indian smuggled goods worth Tk 3 cr seized in Sreemangal

A joint task force has seized Indian smuggled sarees and a large quantity of cosmetics worth around Tk 3 crore during a special operation in the Sreemangal Railway Station area of Moulvibazar.

The operation was conducted around 3:00 PM on (August 22) as part of the ongoing campaign by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to ensure border security, prevent smuggling and curb the trafficking of illegally imported goods.

According to the BGB, the seized invoice have an estimated seizure value of around Tk 3 crore.

Acting on a tip-off about the trafficking of Indian smuggled goods, a joint task force comprising members of Sreemangal Battalion (46 BGB), Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB), RAB and the district administration conducted the operation in the Sreemangal Railway Station area.

The operation was led by Major Mahbubul Haque, deputy commander of Sreemangal Battalion (46 BGB). Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Sreemangal, Minhajul Islam, was also present on behalf of the district administration.

The BGB said the goods, which were being transported for illegal import and smuggling, were seized following legal procedures. The seized items are being processed for handover to the relevant customs authorities for further legal action.

Operations would continue to protect the border, prevent smuggling and stop the entry of illegal goods. Such operations will be intensified in the future to safeguard the country’s economy and security.
