‘Let us move forward with our business relationship’

India and Bangladesh should strengthen their economic and trade ties despite differences in political relations, said Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi on Monday.

Trivedi made the remarks after paying a courtesy call on Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat on Monday.

”Let us move forward with our business relationship; politics will continue in its own way,” Trivedi told reporters during a briefing.

He stressed the need to advance both countries’ economic and commercial relations alongside their political ties, saying ordinary people primarily want jobs, education, healthcare, good roads and electricity– needs that can be addressed through greater trade and economic cooperation.

”Nobody is big and nobody is small. We are all equals, and we have to work on that footing.”

Highlighting the importance of peace and prosperity, Trivedi said prosperity would follow if peace could be ensured.

“I think it is the responsibility of both countries to ensure peace and prosperity for the young generation.”

The envoy said ordinary people do not ask for much; they want the basic necessities of life, with peace being their foremost priority.
