Murder charge after man found shot dead in car

Masum Miah was found fatally wounded inside a car in East Ham

A man has been charged with murder after a 42-year-old man was found shot dead inside a car in east London.

Masum Miah was discovered fatally wounded after police were called to St Bartholomew’s Road, East Ham, at about 03:00 BST on 18 August following reports of gunshots.

The Metropolitan Police said Sergiu Leahu, of no fixed address, had been charged with his murder.

The 40-year-old is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Det Ch Insp Dan Whitten, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Masum’s family as they come to terms with his tragic death.”

He reiterated an appeal for public information, adding: “If you were in the area at the time of the shooting, witnessed anything suspicious, or have any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage that could support our investigation, we urge you to get in touch.”

Masum Ahmed, a 40-year-old British-Bangladeshi resident originally from Bishwanath in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
