Three arrested in Sreemangal for gang-raping teenage girl

Three individuals were arrested for the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

Allegations have surfaced regarding the abduction, confinement and gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. The victim’s father filed a case at Sreemangal Police Station, naming three individuals. Following the complaint, police arrested the three accused.

The arrested individuals are Dulal Miah, 31, son of Sadek Miah from the Ichabpur area of Sreemangal upazila; Md Jewel Miah, alias Sohel, 26, son of Taul Miah from the Chanpur area; and Al Amin Islam, 20, son of Md Mominul Islam from the Riti area. The complaint notes that Jewel currently resides in the Mission Road area, while Al Amin lives in the Sonar Bangla Road area.

According to the case statement, on September 26 at approximately 7:00 PM, the victim was heading home after finishing her work as a domestic helper on Ukil Bari Road in Sreemangal Municipality. It was alleged that the accused intercepted her using a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and forcibly abducted her.

She was then taken to a rented house belonging to accused Dulal Miah in the Ichabpur area of Sreemangal Union and held captive. The complaint alleges that the accused raped the girl repeatedly in turns between 7:30 PM on September 26 and 7:00 AM on September 27.

The case details state that after the incident, the accused abandoned the girl at Sreemangal railway station around 9:00 AM on September 27 and fled the scene. Later, her family members, who had been searching for her, received information and rescued her from the railway station in an injured condition.

Following her rescue, she was initially taken to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex. The attending physician there referred her to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for advanced medical treatment. The victim is currently undergoing treatment in the gynaecology department of Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

Police and family sources indicated that the filing of the case was delayed because some time was required to complete the necessary medical treatment and legal formalities following the incident. The victim’s father then filed a case at Sreemangal Police Station under Sections 7 and 9(3) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 (Case No. 41/277) on Wednesday (September 30).

Sreemangal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the filing of the case and stated that Police Inspector (Unarmed) Md Abdur Razzaq has been assigned as the investigating officer. The three accused individuals named in the complaint were arrested during a raid on Wednesday and subsequently produced before the court.
