BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 931.27cr in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Sept 30, 2026 : The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods and narcotics worth Tk 931 crore 27 lakh 22 thousand and 592 during the last nine months.

“The seizures were made by 13 battalions under the BGB’s North-East Region during operations along around 1,204 kilometres of border under four sectors – Sylhet, Cumilla, Mymensingh and Sreemangal” Commander of Sunamganj Battalion (28 BGB) Lt Col AKM Zakaria Kadir told a press briefing here today.

He said BGB personnel deployed at 211 Border Outposts (BOPs) under the 13 battalions maintained round-the-clock surveillance and conducted patrols from January to September this year.

During the period, BGB seized 11 pistols, nine magazines, seven air guns, five pipe guns, 62 rounds of ammunition, 19 kilogrammes of high explosives, 117 detonators and 30 metres of detonator wires, he said.

The paramilitary force also seized 312,910 yaba tablets, 13,808 kilogrammes of cannabis, 62,676 bottles of foreign liquor and beer, 15,581 bottles of phensedyl and Eskuf syrup, 373,571 tablets of various types of sexual stimulants and 169 litres of locally produced liquor.

A total of 305 people were arrested in connection with the seizures and legal action was taken against them, the commander mentioned.

Besides, BGB conducted drives in border areas, including those under the Mymensingh and Sylhet sectors, to protect natural resources and prevent illegal extraction of stones and sand.

During the drives, 15,900 cubic feet of stones and 7,300 cubic feet of sand were seized.

Lt Col Zakaria said BGB has been working relentlessly to protect the country’s borders, curb border crimes and ensure the security and welfare of people living in border areas.
