Shops, malls open until 10PM for Durga Puja

Shopping malls, markets and shops across Bangladesh will be allowed to remain open until 10PM until October 22 for the upcoming Durga Puja, according to a government decision.

The establishments can remain open from 11AM to 10PM during the period, according to a letter issued by the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday (October 5).

The letter was sent to city corporation mayors and administrators, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.

Under the previous schedule, shopping malls, markets and shops were allowed to remain open from 11AM to 8PM. The new decision extends the closing time by two hours for the Puja period.

The previous schedule will resume from October 23, when the establishments will again be allowed to remain open from 11AM to 8PM.

The formalities of this year’s Durga Puja will begin with Maha Shashthi on October 16 and end with the immersion of idols on Bijoya Dashami on October 21. The government holiday for Durga Puja will run from October 20 to 24.
