Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) chief Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said law enforcement agencies are alert over possible unrest surrounding Sheikh Hasina’s return in December.
He added, no activities of any banned political party will be allowed.
Chief made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday (October 7).
“Ensuring the safety of life and property of the people, particularly those living in Dhaka metropolitan area, is one of our major responsibilities,” he said.
He added that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and would take necessary measures to prevent any attempt at subversive activities.
Asked about intelligence activities concerning the possibility of Sheikh Hasina returning to the country in December and fears of programmes or sabotage by the banned party in connection with it, the DB chief said activities prohibited by law would not be allowed.
“We will not allow any prohibited activities to be carried out in the country. We are taking a very strict stance in this regard and will take appropriate legal action,” he said.
Shafiqul Islam further said necessary measures would continue in accordance with the law to prevent activities of the banned party.
He added that arrest operations against those involved in such activities are ongoing.
