
The Bi-Annual General Meeting and Election 2026 of the Greater Deulgram Welfare Trust UK was held on Monday, 5 October, at a restaurant in Romford.
The meeting was conducted in two sessions. The first session was chaired by outgoing President Abdul Shukur Ahmed and conducted by General Secretary Sultan Ahmed and Joint Secretary Dulal Alam.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Mohammad Zakwan. This was followed by a welcome speech delivered by President Abdul Shukur Ahmed. General Secretary Sultan Ahmed and Treasurer Monowar Ahmed subsequently presented their respective reports to the trustees.

Following the presentation of the reports, a number of trustees and guests took part in the discussion. They included Trustee and Senior Vice President Mohammed Ohid Uddin; Vice President Saleh Ahmed; Vice President Mohammed Abdul Alim; former Speaker of Tower Hamlets Council, Councillor Shafi Ahmed; former Councillor of Sylhet City Corporation Saleh Ahmed Selim; Mahbub Alam, Moinul Islam, Fakhrul Islam, Md. Mahbub Alam, Gulzar Hossain, Farid Uddin, Roushon Uddin Ahmed, Abul Azad Shebul, Maulana Anwar Hussain Rabbani, and Abul Fattah.
During the discussion, all the trustees emphasised the importance of preserving and highlighting the history, heritage and traditions of their respective localities through the Greater Deulgram Welfare Trust. They particularly stressed the need to share this heritage with expatriates and the younger generation.
The speakers expressed the view that presenting accurate and authentic local history to the new generation would help develop their enthusiasm, interest and connection with their ancestral communities. They believe that strengthening this connection is essential for ensuring the continued success and effectiveness of the Trust’s activities.
At the conclusion of the first session, the meeting proceeded to its second session, focusing on the formation of the new committee for the 2026–2028 term. In keeping with a long-standing tradition, five trustees—Saleh Ahmed, Roushon Uddin, Farid Uddin, Abul Azad Sabul and Gulzar Hossain—were entrusted with the responsibility of electing the new committee.
Before the election process began, Honorary Trustee Shibbir Ahmed, Honorary Trustee Badrul Haque, and media personality Misbah Jamal shared their views and offered their advice regarding the future activities and development of the Trust.
