West Indies have announced a 15-member squad for their two-Test series against Bangladesh, resting white-ball captain Shai Hope and leaving out fast bowler Alzarri Joseph.
All-rounder Keemo Paul has been included as Joseph’s replacement, while Kevin Wickham has earned his maiden Test call-up. Opener John Campbell has also returned to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the recent home series against Pakistan.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) said Joseph withdrew from the squad following routine medical assessments and specialist advice.
The board said the decision was taken to manage his workload and reduce the risk of injury from the physical demands of red-ball cricket. Joseph agreed with the decision, while his participation in shorter formats has not been ruled out.
CWI noted that consecutive Test matches in Bangladesh would require fast bowlers to deliver long spells at high intensity, placing greater physical demands on them than shorter formats.
Hope has also been rested to manage his workload, with the team looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
Wickham earned his maiden Test call-up after finishing as the third-highest run-scorer in West Indies’ domestic competition, scoring 393 runs at an average of 78.60. He has scored six centuries in 25 first-class matches, averaging 40.88.
The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship. The first Test will begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on October 28, while the second and final Test is scheduled to start in Sylhet on November 5. The touring side are due to arrive in Dhaka on October 18 and will play a warm-up match before the series.
West Indies squad: Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), Joshua Bishop, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva (wicketkeeper), Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo (wicketkeeper), Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales and Kevin Wickham.
