The historic 7th March, a Red-letter day in the history of the Bangalees’ long arduous freedom struggle, was observed in the Sylhet district like elsewhere in the country on Saturday in a befitting manner amid much enthusiasm.
On this day in 1971, great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his epoch-making speech of independence at the Race Course Maidan, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka.
A discussion meeting regarding this was held in front of Court Point premises which was jointly organised by district and city Awami League. State minister of Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy attended the meeting chief guest.
District Awami League president Abduj Johir Chowdhury Sufian, Alhaz Ashfak Ahmed, City AL general secretary Asad Uddin, Mashuk Uddin, Koes Gaji, Zakir Hossain, Nizam Uddin also spoke, among others.
Earlier, leaders and activists of different organisations placed floral wreath on the statue of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders.
