Police raid Farabi’s Sylhet home

43Police have raided the Sylhet home of Shafiur Rahman Farabi, prime suspect of writer-blogger Avijit Roy’s murder.

No one was at home during the search at the city’s Munshiparha on Sunday morning.

Farabi’s mother and sister have been living there for one year.

The apartment was locked from the outside, said Sylhet Metropolitan police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Rahmat Ullah.

He said a team of Kotwali police had assisted the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective team in the raid.

“We forced our way in and confiscated a computer and some documents,” he said without specifying the contents of the computer.

Farabi, known for promoting Islamist radicalism on the social media, had threatened Avijit on Facebook.

He was arrested at Dhaka four days after the killing.

Assailants hacked to death US citizen Avijit on Feb 26 at the Ekushey Book Fair on the Dhaka University campus.

His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya, also injured in the attack, is currently undergoing treatment in the US.

Police are questioning Farabi in custody over the murder. The FBI is assisting the murder probe.
