Amid much festivity and fanfare, the National Film Day – a happy occasion for the entire film fraternity of the country, was celebrated on Friday. To mark the day in a befitting manner, the Ministry of Information and Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) jointly held elaborate programmes. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the programme at a grand opening ceremony as chief guest. Cultural Minister Asduzzaman Noor attended the ceremony as special guest. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also arranged an exhibition of poster and portraits of artistes of Bangla films at its National Music and Dance Center Gallery to celebrate the day on Friday. With BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair, the academy also arranged a discussion at its Nandan Mancha in the city that evening. Filmmakers Syed Salahuddin Zaki, Morshedul Islam, Mosihuddin Shaker, Gazi Rakayet and Motin Rahman, Dr Fahmidul Haque of Dhaka University, film researcher Anupam Hayat, President of Federation of Film Society of Bangladesh Lailun Nahar and Director General of Bangladesh Film Archive Dr Jahangir Hossain addressed the discussion, among others. Besides, local satellite television channels and radio stations also air special programmes celebrating the day. Channel i, a leading satellite TV channel of the country, launched its celebrations through airing ‘Chhoy Dashaker Choloman Chitra’ at 10.30am that morning. ‘Koborir Panchash Bachhar’ was telecast at 11.30am while ‘Sonali Diner Gaan’ was aired on the channel at 05.30pm that evening. The channel also telecast ‘Bishesh Pachish Minit’, a special programme produced by Sehangal Biplob, at 06.20pm on Friday.
