Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina & President Md Abdul Hamid has sent her warmest congratulations to Tulip Siddiq, Rushanara Ali and Rupa Huq, the three candidates of Bangladeshi-origin, on their comfortable election to the British parliament.

Hasina’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told reporters about prime minister’s message on Friday afternoon.

In a message, the prime minister said their victories in the 2015 UK election had filled Bangladeshi expatriates, who are in British politics, with pride.

She thanked everyone who had worked hard, helped her niece Tulip and supported her during the campaigning.

Hasina also congratulated her sister Sheikh Rehana after Tulip, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was elected from the Hampstead and Kilburn constituency.

Their victories in the 2015 UK election made the Bengali expatriates in London proud, the president’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted him as saying while talking to media on Friday.

In a message, the president also wished them good luck in carrying out their responsibilities as elected representatives in the British parliament.

Rupa Huq was elected from Ealing Central and Acton, a north-west London seat.

Rushanara Ali was re-elected from her Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in east London, by a massive 25,000 majority.

The three ‘daughters of Bangladesh’ had contested from Labour party, which suffered shocking defeat in most of the constituencies.

The Conservatives with 331 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons have won the general election held on Thursday.
