Scintilla CC roar back with double wins

Scintilla Cricket Club roared back to winning ways as both the first and second XI’s recorded notable away victories against Ace CC and Newham CC.

The Scintilla first XI fielded a full strength side and were bolstered by the return of powerful all rounder Sajal Rahman. Aaman Khan and Ishaq Shawn also returned to the first team and the trio were in go-getting form as Scintilla overpowered Ace at the Low Hall sports ground in Walthamstow.

Ace won the toss and decided to field. Ishaq Shawn struck 40 with Bellal Hossain and Aaman Khan adding 28 and 26 respectively from 32.5 overs.

Ace CC bowlers Shibbir took 4/40 and Shah 3/28.

27.1 overs were all that were required as Ace were all bowled out 83/10. Aaman Khan took 3/23 (6 overs), Hassan Rony 3/11 (8 overs) and Sajal Rahman 2/4 (4.1 overs).

Scintilla CC won the match by 67 runs.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim said: “The players showed grit and character to overturn the morale sapping loss to Barking CC last week. Our momentum is building and we are beginning to click. There is room for much improvements to be made and the great thing is the players are aware and I know I can rely on them to put together a winning run.”

Speaking in front of the Mohsin Beg Pavilion, man of the match Aaman Khan said: “I am fortunate to be surrounded by a great team and I dedicate today’s win to all my colleagues at Scintilla. It was nervy at the beginning but we achieved a win that will boost our confidence looking ahead.”

Fourteen year old David Macauley had his first taste of league cricket. The Sidney Russell pupil from Barking and Dagenham took to the field to make his Scintilla CC debut as twelfth man. Gushing after playing his part in a resounding victory Macauley said: “I’m really happy and want to thank club captain Ahmed Choudhury for giving me my chance to play. It was just great being out on the field with the champions. I hope I have a long career with this team.”

Scintilla CC second XI followed the lead of the seniors as they beat Newham CC at the Peter May Sports Centre in the latest round of Essex County Cricket League games.

Scintilla CC won the toss and decided to bat first.

Walid Ahmed top scored with 82, whilst the ever dependable Abdullah Khizir struck an impressive 62. Zahied Hossain added a further 29 as the home team scored a whopping 263/8 from 45 overs before handing the gauntlet to their local rivals.

Kamran took 3 wickets for Newham CC who refused to be buckled and went down fighting. Scintilla’s Ahmed Norharif starred with 5 wickets and Mohammed Chisty added a further 2 wickets to complete a Scintilla win by 29 runs.

Captain Shaha Riadh said: “It’s always a great pleasure to beat Newham. They are our local rivals and there is a healthy and respectful rivalry between both teams. The boys were superb throughout and I couldn’t ask for more. We will continue to prepare fully for our next match.”

Joint men of the match were Ahmed Norharif and Walid Ahmed. Malaysian star Norharif said: “I’m still finding my feet and adapting to the game. I am getting to know my team mates and I’m really pleased with today’s wickets. I’m playing in a great team and can see us doing even better.

Walid Ahmed added: “The weather was good and the support of my team mates was spot on throughout. We rise and fall together and I’m just really happy the team won to secure the points.”
