Three-day Bangladesh Apparel and Safety Expo held in Chittagong

62The three-day Bangladesh Apparel and Safety Expo in Chittagong that ended yesterday received spot orders for garment export worth $15 million. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organised the expo in the port city for the first time with an aim to showcase the garment products to the international buyers and familiarise the entrepreneurs with the latest safety equipments and machinery.
Bangladesh and India have reached a consensus to bring down the border killings to zero level and ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the frontiers. The first consignment of relief materials containing over one tonne of medicines and water purification tablets from Bangladesh has reached Myanmar. Member of the European Parliament Sajjad Karim yesterday urged the Bangladesh government and the readymade garment exporters to start necessary groundwork for availing the GSP plus benefit in the EU market as the country would lose generalised system of preferences in the market once it achieves middle-income country status. He said to the media after a meeting with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association at the BGMEA office in the city.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman yesterday announced that the central bank will launch a new loan product for the remittance earners in Malaysia following opening up of the Malaysian labour market for the country. The central bank governor made this pledge while speaking as the chief guest at ‘World Conference Series 2015’ in Kuala Lumpur, organised by NRB Centre, a Bangladesh-based organisation, according to a message received in the capital yesterday.
