Events to help Tower Hamlets residents find jobs

36Skillsmatch, the award-winning recruitment service run by Tower Hamlets Council, is hosting two events to help residents find work.
On Thursday, August 27, there will be a Tower Hamlets Homes apprenticeship event, taking place from 10am and 1pm at the Skillsmatch office next to Poplar DLR station.

It will attempt to place young people into work with the many organisations that work closely with Tower Hamlets Homes as contractors.
Employers including Axis, Breyers, Keepmoat, Mears, and more will be here to meet young people applying for apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are available across various areas, including scaffolding, electrical, admin, roofing, painting and much more.
On Tuesday, September 22, Berkeley Homes are hosting a jobs fair to recruit residents for jobs and apprenticeships on the Goodman’s Field project in Aldgate. The event, hosted at Gowers Walk, Aldgate, E1 8BS, from 3pm to 7pm, will be open to the public to meet a range of employers working on the site.
Skillsmatch’s friendly and professional team provides support to those who want to find the perfect job – whatever that is. They can also help residents to prepare themselves for work, providing training, support with job applications, or helping refine interview skills.
Since 1997, Skillsmatch has helped nearly 10,000 people in Tower Hamlets find work.
Martin is one of them. He discovered Skillsmatch after seeing an advert in East End Life. Prior to visiting Skillsmatch he had been doing a number of voluntary jobs.
Speaking about his experience at Skillsmatch, Martin said: “The experience I had at Skillsmatch was spot on. Everyone I met at Skillsmatch helped me with everything from updating my CV, helping me to feel ready for interviews, and even preparing me for my first day in my job.
“The support Skillsmatch covers everything from start to finish. They even followed up to check how I was getting on in my job.”
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, said: “It is important that we as a council do as much as we can to help local people get jobs. Securing employment for our residents is one of my main aims as Mayor of this borough, and Skillsmatch is key to that. Skillsmatch now has three locations across the borough, so there’s one near you wherever you live – so pop in, talk with our team, and make the most of this incredible service.”
Skillsmatch are based at the Council’s Employment and Skills Centre at 55 Upper Bank Street, E14 5GR (near Poplar DLR station) – or at the Idea Stores in Whitechapel and Chrisp Street.
