Free summer activities brochure available at Idea Stores, schools, youth centres, council buildings and online.
This week, pupils from Smithy Street Primary School in Stepney joined Mayor John Biggs and Councillor Sabina Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Culture, Arts and Brexit to launch this year’s free summer events programme for the borough.
The school children took part in activities at Urban Adventure Base in Mile End including climbing, archery and canoeing as a preview of some of the 335 free exciting activities taking place from July to early September.
John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets said: “This year’s summer activities programme will inspire you to try all the interesting and free activities taking place across the borough.
“It includes something for everyone, whether you want to try something new or enjoy one of the many annual favourites on our doorsteps.”
Hosted by the council and partner organisations including the Play Association and Better Leisure, activities range from free swimming for residents of all ages, nature walks, adventure sports days, estate soccer camps, cinema trips, days out, courses, go karting, scone making and much more.
Activities will be taking place at venues across the borough including the Urban Adventure Base, youth clubs, schools, parks, housing estates, leisure centres, and Idea Stores.
The council wants to make sure residents, including families on low incomes who find it difficult to access holiday activities, are able to take part in a range of community, cultural and leisure activities. Many of the programmes also include free nutritional meals to help children through a day of active fun.
Annual family favourites such as a Great Day Out in the award winning Victoria Park on 3 August also return this year with live music, fairground rides, arts and crafts.
Mile End Park will also host its annual Day by the Seaside – inviting residents and visitors to enjoy donkey rides, water play and other fun.
And the Sporting Carnival at Stepney Green promises to be a fun day for football, bike riding, climbing, and a general sporting extravaganza.
Councillor Sabina Akhtar, Cabinet Member, for Culture, Arts and Brexit said: “There’s absolutely no excuse for being bored this summer. Our programme offers free exciting activities for every day of the holiday period.
“I encourage residents of all ages to venture out and enjoy what promises to be a great summer of active fun.”
